Profit Target
Definition
A profit target is the minimum profit percentage you must achieve during an evaluation or challenge phase to advance to the next stage or receive a funded account. Typical targets range from 5% to 10%.
Profit targets are the gateway to funded accounts. In FTMO's Challenge phase, the target is 10% of the account balance within 30 days. In the Verification phase, it drops to 5% within 60 days. Other firms have different targets — Topstep requires $3,000-$6,000 depending on account size.
The key to hitting profit targets is not to chase them aggressively. Many traders blow their drawdown limits trying to reach the target quickly. A more sustainable approach is to calculate the required daily or weekly gain and plan trades accordingly. For example, a 10% target over 30 days is roughly 0.33% per day — very achievable with disciplined trading.
