Funded Account
Definition
A funded account is a live trading account provided by a prop firm after a trader successfully passes the evaluation phases. The trader keeps a percentage of profits (typically 70-90%) while the firm provides the capital.
Getting a funded account is the goal of every prop trader. After passing the evaluation (challenge and verification phases), the firm allocates real capital for you to trade. You don't risk your own money beyond the initial evaluation fee, and you receive a profit split — typically ranging from 70% to 90% depending on the firm and scaling level.
Funded accounts still have rules. You must continue to respect drawdown limits, daily loss limits, and any other firm-specific rules. Violating these rules on a funded account means losing the account and any unrealized profits. This is why ongoing compliance monitoring is just as important after getting funded as it is during the evaluation.
Many firms offer scaling plans that increase your account size and profit split as you demonstrate consistent profitability. PropJournal helps traders maintain compliance on funded accounts through real-time monitoring and automated alerts, significantly reducing the risk of losing a hard-earned funded account.
