Payout

Definition

A payout is the withdrawal of profits from a funded prop firm account. Payouts are subject to the firm's profit split, minimum thresholds, and schedule (typically bi-weekly or monthly).

Payout structures vary significantly between prop firms. FTMO processes payouts every 14 days with no minimum threshold. Topstep requires a minimum of 5 winning days before the first payout. Apex allows payouts twice per month after meeting specific criteria.

The payout schedule affects your trading strategy. With bi-weekly payouts, you might plan your trading around the payout cycle — being more conservative as payout day approaches to lock in profits, then more aggressive at the start of a new cycle when you have a fresh drawdown buffer.

Some firms also have scaling-related payout benefits. For example, maintaining consistent payouts over several months might qualify you for an increased profit split or larger account. PropJournal tracks your payout eligibility and countdown, so you always know when your next payout window is and how much you're eligible to withdraw.
